Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen was a champion in sports and loved rough, athletic sports. Her inherent ability to perform was an ideal complement to her interest in sport. She was evident as she received each Feis in drama and theatre in Ireland. When she turned 14 years old, she had been accepted at the famous Abbey Theater and pursued her aspirations of classical theatre and operatic singing. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after seeing a Maureen screen examination. He became captivated by her beautiful eyes. Laughton changed Maureen FitzSimons's name, from Maureen FitzSimons, to "Maureen O'Hara" and it is a less slender version of her previous name. This name change occurred prior to Laughton decided to use her for Jamaica Inn. Maureen FitzSimons' subsequent movie (The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939-1939) was set to be produced by RKO Pictures in America under an agreement with Laughton. Her contract with Laughton was bought by RKO following the epic film became a huge success. Maureen was just 19 when she appeared alongside Laughton in two movies.
